My name is Jenna. Running is my passion, sport and sanity. I have been fortunate to compete as a semi-professional athlete for 7 years, in between having 3 children, running my own photography business and raising three young daughters. After the birth of my third daughter in June 2012 (“babies done, now to run”), I focused on improving my running to achieve certain goals important to me as an athlete. One of these was to represent my country. In 2013 I was selected to join Elana Mayer’s prestigious Endurocad Satellite group of athletes. The group’s objective is to identify and prepare national athletes for World Championship and Olympic participation and success.

I have focused on improving my running to achieve certain goals important to me as an athlete. One of these was to represent my country.

In February 2013 I was selected to represent South Africa at the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships held in Copenhagen on 29 March 2014, where I ran a personal best time of 74.19 and placed 47th overall.

As a distance runner I have compete over distances ranging from 5 – 21km. However as my career has progressed I extended this range to include the marathon and ran my debut marathon in Mossel Bay in September 2013, I won the race in a world qualifying time of 2.41.19 and believe that my success in the shorter formats will translate well into the marathon and ultra marathon distance in time.

My two primary goals are to qualify to represent South Africa at the 2016 Rio Olympics and to become the leading South African female distance runner at the Two Oceans and Comrades Ultras.

5km:   16:35 (South African Park Run record)
10km:   34:12 (Cape Town Spar Ladies 2015)
21.1km:   74:19 (Copenhagen ­– March 2014)
42.2km:   2.41.19 (Mossel Bay- September 2014)

I have set myself the following milestones to achieve these goals:

  • International Marathon, May 2015 [Goal: faster time]
  • Two Oceans Ultra (56km), April 2016 [Goal: Top 5 finish]
  • Two overseas marathons, 2015/2016 [Goal: Qualify for Rio Olympics]
  • Comrades Marathon (90km), June 2016 [Goal: First SA lady]
  • Rio Olympic Marathon, August 2016 [Goal: Represent South Africa]
